Leonora, Guyana, originally called Plantation Leonora is situated about from Vreed-en-Hoop. The name Leonora is Dutch coming from the time of Dutch occupation of the country. It originated from the names of two Dutch children, a boy named Leo and a girl named Nora. Leonora encompasses an area of about , and was once part of the Parish of St. Luke. It stretches from Edinburgh in the east to Stewartville in the west. Its subdivisions are Pasture, Sea Field, Para Field, Groenveldt and Sear Spray. The village before Leonora is Anna Catherina and the village after is Uitvlugt. Leonora has four religious groups; Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Arya Samaj . Each group practice their religion, and share in their religious practices without prejudice.
